Designing Ambience
Country style evokes memories of a casual, friendly, simpler life of yesteryear on a Midwestern or Appalachian farm in the United States. It is clearly not urban or suburban. This represents an idealized vision of rural life in America. You can almost see the quilts on the beds, smell the cornbread in the kitchen, and taste the homemade apple pie.
 Decorating Technique
Furniture is rural and rustic; colors are muted with significant use of earth tones and milk-paint finishes. Often colors and surfaces suggest the wear of time. And fabrics have a vintage flavor featuring floral, checked, striped patterns on calico fabric.
Decorating accessories tend to a handmade, homespun look. Natural country accents make potpourri, straw, woven baskets, wooden spoons, pottery, old tin canisters, towels, soaps and quilts.
